Closet makeovers!

This weekend I felt like tackling something that had been bugging me for awhile:  our closets.  Well, at least I felt like tackling some of the closets.  The master closet still has a lot of work to be done, but the two bedroom closets on the first floor are pretty straightforward, so I decided to give it a go.

I'm not sure why closets can be such a peeve of mine, but I painted the interiors of the closets in our last house too, even before we moved in (which if you have the opportunity to do, I highly recommend doing prior to moving in--it's just easier that way).  There's just something about opening the doors to walls that have a fresh coat of paint that makes me happy.  It's a small detail, but I just think taking the hour or so to paint the inside of a closet makes a huge difference.

After removing the shelves and rods, I had to prep the walls and cut in the corners and edges.  Both closets had an insane amout of lumpy drywall compound on them, probably due to some long gone organization system, so I had to sand it all down and repair a few holes.  (The studs in the future kid's room closet appear not to be in line so finding the stud was a process of trial and error, which led to a few additional holes that needed patching.  I still don't understand what's going on in-between those walls.)

Anyway, I chose Martha Stewart's Sea Glass for the interior.  It's a happy, bright color and adds a little cheer.  Plus it kind of reminds me of Tiffany blue and that's always a good thing, right?

I'm really pleased with how it turned out: it's clean, bright, happy and a nice little surprise for our guests. What do you think?  Do you paint your closet interiors?  Or do you have any strange peeves when it comes to your home?  Spill.

I really admire your ambition with painting. Because I really don't like doing it. But we are considering doing the upstairs guest bedroom a creamy, light yellow. Closets, though...we didn't even have the professional painters touch them because the idea of having to empty/organize the contents of all of them at once would have given me a brain aneurism.

I love it! I have now decided to paint all of my closets' interiors.

Ooh, you definitely should, Christie! Especially since you're probably not all moved in yet--makes for less work when you don't have a ton of stuff to remove first. Definitely post pics on your blog if you do it--I can't wait to see!

I will definitely take pictures. So far the only work we've done on the house is get pricing for new windows. That is not fun or picture-worthy.
